Mandela Day 2017
The father of the South African nation, Nelson Mandela fought for social justice for 67 years and South Africans across the nation celebrate or honour his memory by participating in charity work or assisting where they can in order to make the world a better place on Mandela Day. In recent years, Mandela Day which falls on 18 July has gained recognition internationally with people all across the world coming together to do their bit by taking action against poverty.
On 18 July 2017, the Staza team went to Unity Secondary School in Daveyton, East Rand, to show support for Mandela Day. Staza chose this particular school because it is in the vicinity of Mayfield Mall, one of the sites where we are contracted to clean. From 10 o’clock in the morning until very late at night, our group of Stars were deep cleaning ablutions at this high school so that our up and coming South African stars can also experience a clean, safe and healthy environment. Staza is proud to take part in such an auspicious movement and will surely take part every year going forward.

Staza Women
The issue of girl children being unable to buy sanitary pads and missing crucial school days has caused a stir in South Africa bringing about demonstrations for the “7 million” cause. For those girls whose families cannot afford to buy them sanitary pads, they end up using other alternatives such as rags, socks or paper which are hazardous to their health.
Since Staza Cleaning Services (PTY) Ltd evolved from a previously disadvantaged community and is 100% owned by black South African women, assisting indigent girls from one of the areas in which Staza is contracted was an opportunity to give back to a community similar to that which shaped Staza itself.
The Staza Women structure at our site South32 Khutala site, in Mpumalanga came together to support the girls in their community. On 8 September 2017, Matiti Gumbi, Nonkululeko Skhosana , Selephi Maposa, Theo Moshamola amongst many others all came together and presented forty girls at Siyathokoza Primary School in Phola with gift bags that consisted of bathroom essentials and sanitary towels. The girls were elated and the school felt that this act was a beacon of hope and a reservoir of hygienic and socio-economic values.
